Yesterday, I failed... to execute my plan to see Madrid. I had resolved not to leave until I felt confident that I had exposed myself to the true culture, history, and art of Madrid. But I allowed my excuses to overwhelm me. It was hot to the point that I felt ill as soon as I stepped out the door. So I decided to wait the weather out, but when it cooled down, thunderstorms followed immediately after. I began to worry that I might not see the place I'd come across the ocean to explore. This thought disturbed me deeply.
Today, with a bit of good luck and great weather, I overcame my failure. After class ended at noon I made a beeline for Metro train station. I started at one end of the city, went to the complete other end, and came back full circle.
My journey was filled with awe and excitement that filled my heart with gladness, but also sadden me when I realized that I had wasted good time and opportunity not seeing these things sooner. Nonetheless, I enraptured myself in the beauty of Madrid, and the wonders it had to offer. Once again, I ran into my dear friend Picasso, and left the table fully satisfied.
The city I saw today, was not what I've been seeing for the past 4 weeks, which is unfortunate, because its truly a sight to behold. But better late than never.
I picked up my map, and off I went.
