Ask and It Shall be Given ~ Day 4
Dear God,
Please take this jet lag from me!!!! I slept through most of four hours of class today. I felt sooooo bad. I just sat there with my hoodie on and my eyes closed. Its not that fact that no one really saw me, but I was sitting on the first row!! And I truly enjoy this subject and want to do really well in my classes.
But if this cup shall not pass, I thank you for giving me humor to make light of it with my professors. And I thank you that their hearts are not hardened towards me. In fact, I thank you for favor among my American classmates, and especially my Chinese classmates.
I don't think they believe in the Lord as their savior, but they truly embody many Christian principles. For instance........ a young lady named Ivy (who will be attending DePaul Law next year) volunteered to take me shopping at the Silk Market, although she had no idea what she was getting herself into.
Nonetheless, she stayed with me at the Silk Market for 8 hours and never seemed bored once. In fact, she was bruised for my sake. I never had to say a word to the wretched saleswomen, Ivy did all of the bargaining for me. She would raise her voice, and stamp her foot, and shake her head....which put the fear of God in my heart to bargain them down. But at the end of the day, I got none of the dresses I wanted for the prices I wanted.
I mean, who would pay $40 for a handbeaded silk BCBG dress thats not hanging on the wall in Macy's or Nordstrom's. I was willing to pay $20, and $25 at the most....but they kept saying that they would lose money. I finally told them that they would lose more money if the dress keeps hanging on the wall and nobody buying them.....That clearly sent the saleslady over the edge. She grabbed the dress out of my lap, and hung it back up and turned around to help the next customer, quoting them an even more outrageous price then she quoted me!
But Ivy said that these dresses were very fine quality and not cheap fakes.....and believe me, there were some very cheap fakes there also.
Take for instance these nice gymshoes shown above. At at distance, they look like a really nice pair of quality Nikes. But upon close inspections, these shoes were clearly not made at the Nike Plant. In fact, they were made at the .....
HIKE PLANT!! HAHAHAHAHHAHA
But don't get me wrong, there were some really goood fakes there.
But,the bargaining takes soooooo much out of you. And by the end of the night, I was exhausted, and hadn't even checked out three of the six floors.
And I was really hungry after shopping for 8 hours straight. Ivy and I took the Subway home (about 25 cent). It was a very familiar experience since many of the people were leaving work, it was packed like sardines, and like the people on the Chicago subway, many of them were not wearing anti-persperant or had worked so hard all day that there was no more left. RIPE AS A PLUM! And then the homeless guy came through singing and begging just like the ones in Chicago. I felt right at home!
But the stench could not curb my appetite for the meal that I was craving. Curry chicken and rice from the University's Student Dining Hall......
Initially, I thought I would not be able to eat Chinese food because I had heard such horrors stories about traveler's diarrhea and etc. But I have been enjoying their culinary mastery just fine! As the Bible says "Reese shall not live by bread and water alone!" But a couple of egg rolls might do the trick!
I've got to get dressed for our trip to the Chinese Law firm, so I'll finish this later! Stay tuned.
